Congrats to SBS for a fantastic Eurovision result

Top 5 result 2 years running -SBS nearly pulled off the America's Cup of the pop music world.

A gorgeous, emotional Dami Im has thanked supporters after finishing second Eurovision Song Contest.

Dami fought off tears as mixed emotions and tension were finally released after her stunning performance in Stockholm.

Dami Im topped the jury votes but was pipped in the public Televoting in a nail-biting finish.

SBS, Blink TV and Sony Music Australia are to be congratulated for a fantastic result for Australia. Finishing 2nd this year and 5th last year -with only two years experience behind them- is an outstanding achievement. Other countries have taken years to attain those kinds of numbers. SBS very nearly pulled off the ‘America’s Cup’ of the pop music world. Shall we just pencil in Cyrus for 2017?

Meanwhile, here is how Australian Televoting fared. The Aussie jury also voted Belgium first.

Australia received 12 points in the Televoting from Belgium, Austria, Croatia, Hungary, Malta, Sweden, Switzerland and The Netherlands.

Only three countries gave us no votes in the televoting: Czech Republic, Ireland and San Marino.

  1. David, I think those 12 pts you mentioned were what was announced and these were the jury votes. Unfortunately Australia only got 3 12s in the televote – Sweden, Albania and Malta

  2. Can it also be pointed out that Petra and Mans are the best Eurovision hosts ever?!!

All three shows were so so entertaining – not sure Kiev’s breakfast TV hosts will be able to match up to SVT’s incredible show – still humming along to “Love Love Peace Peace”!

  3. Apart from Dami….I actually liked Malta….just me…
And yes….big thanks to SBS for all the work they put in so we have a great Eurovision experience…and to TV Tonight for keeping us in the loop….

  4. Well done to Australia! Amazing effort! Best performance by far – shame we didn’t win. Here’s hoping to next year! Can’t believe Ukraine won – we didn’t even notice her or the song at all whilst watching it.
Presenting the voting system this year, was confusing (eventually worked it out). Needs to be refined next year I feel. Cant wait for next year!

  5. 2nd is an incredible effort and Dami was outstanding. Definitely well done to all involved. I actually like your suggestion David. I think Cyrus would do very well at Eurovision.

  6. Unlike the chorus of Ukraine haters , I thought the Ukraine song was a worthy winner.
However I can’t help feel that Australia was robbed cos the organisers didn’t want to have a European event held in Sydney in 2017.
Remember the pauses between the 5th highest and 4th highest televoter votes. I am sure someone was screaming into Petra’s ear piece – for gods sake announce Australia as 4th highest and Poland 3rd highest.

Seriously Poland came dead last in the jury voting but came third in the televoter voting???

  7. Dami Im came first in semi final 2 (330 points), first in the Grand Final jury vote (320 points), came second in the overall competition (511 points), and the song won the ‘composer’ award. I’m sorry but we must send someone better then Cyrus or Samantha Jade if we are invited next year… Maybe it’s time for Delta, Matt Corby, or Vance Joy!
