Speculation today about who will host Seven’s upcoming Gold Coast bulletin with Amanda Abate (pictured) the front-runner according to News Corp.

Abate moved back to the Sunshine State late last year after working in Sydney. She is a Gold Coast local, with experience reading news in both Sydney and Brisbane newsrooms.

Sports presenter Giaan Rooney, who presents Seven Brisbane’s local afternoon bulletin, is also suggested.

Former TEN reporter Max Futcher was on the desk in Brisbane over Christmas, whilst Katrina Blowers is another name in the mix.

While a set is under construction, no date for the Seven News bulletin has been announced.

Meanwhile the article also speculates that Nine Queensland director of news Mike Dalton is trying to poach reporters to be based outside of Brisbane.

  1. Is Mile Dalton still Director of News for QLD? He seems to be on Sydney News either in studio or out and about reporting most nights.

      1. As far as I’m aware, the Mike Dalton who is the Queensland News Director for Nine News is not the same Mike Dalton who is Nine News Sydney’s resident fluff/puff piece correspondent! 😉

  2. Seven Sunshine Coast has had a local news bulletin for decades, fronted by Rob Brough. It airs at 6.00 pm and, to accommodate it, Seven’s 6.00 pm bulletin is edited to 30 minutes, starting at 6.30 pm. Take away Sport & commercials, we get about 12 minutes of actual national news. I wonder if this will be the Gold Coast situation.

    1. I was wondering the same thing. Think I’ll stick with 9’s Gold Coast News. Maybe if it’s not on due to the cricket or something I’ll give 7 a go.

    2. I hope it is. Especially since Nine has moved to the hour bulletin at 6 – many 5:30 stories on the GC bulletin get recycled at 6. Hopefully Seven take a more original approach.

Hmmm. Fallout already due to the loss of WIN affiliation in FNQ?
