TEN has confirmed earlier rumours of Samoa as the destination for upcoming reality series Australian Survivor.
It was also home to US seasons Samoa (2009), Heroes & Villains (2009), South Pacific (2011) and One World (2012).
Due later this year the series is hosted by actor Jonathan LaPaglia.
TEN Chief Programming Officer, Beverley McGarvey, said: “Jonathan is the perfect host for Australian Survivor and Samoa is the perfect location. It is beautiful, remote, challenging and dramatic.
“More than 15,000 Australians applied to be part of this new series.
“The 24 Australian contestants we have selected will be transported to a unique and very different world, where they will have to outwit, outlast and outplay to become the ultimate survivor,” she said.
“We have wanted to create Australian Survivor for many years. We are delighted to be able to bring this amazing show to viewers.”
Australian Survivor will be produced by Endemol Shine Australia, in association with format creator Castaway Television Productions Ltd.

Dunno why but I thought they might actually hold Australian Survivor in Australia.
If Ten stick to one hour once a week it’s got a chance. Milk it out to 90 minutes three times a week and it will deserverdly fail.
I’ve got faith in this being a winner. I think everyone involved is determined to have learned from the previous debacles and do it right. Can’t wait.
Will be the biggest show of the year for Ten in my opinion. Good time for WIN to jump aboard.
I think they will use the Palau twist, which I think it was unfair to those two contestants sent home within the first hour.
Best show ever. (Well definitely my personal in top 3 and winner of best reality show in my own personal awards.)
Hope they don’t stuff it up.
With 15,000 applicants there will be no excuse not to have a killer cast. Looking forward to it.
I agree. But with 24 going to the island, it does seem a bit excessive. (Though I have heard a rumour that not all will get to play the game. [Take that with a grain of salt though.])
Castaway won’t let them stray much from the format, so yes I would expect a mass elimination (or similar) at the outset.
Is 39 days all they are allowed or could it be, say, 48 days?
Phew!
I have to disagree, I feel like that while everything will remain the same, I feel like that all 24 will be apart of the show and no one will be Wanda’ed (a reference a contestant from US Survivor:Palau who was eliminated in a day 1 twist). They will probably accommodate by having more frequent vote-offs or by extending the game beyond the traditional 39 days (which has been done a far bit on other versions of the show)
Besides having a large cast fits with 10’s/Endermol-Shine’s other shows (Bachelor, Masterchef) having a larger cast means you could have a 9/10 week show without stretching the elimination cycle over two episodes (which I feel should be avoided)
