Tip the Logies: Waleed Aly for Gold

TV Tonight readers are backing a Project-led Logie haul this year.

2016-05-06_2125

TV Tonight readers are predicting a Project-led Logies night with Waleed Aly to take both Gold and Silver Logies and The Project as Best News and Current Affairs.

A win would cap off an impressive 12 months for Aly, whose editorial ‘ISIS is Weak’ drew attention from around the world.

The survey results suggest plenty of wins for TEN in the public-voted categories.

There were 555 surveys completed this year (up from 2015’s 308) however some categories are so tight they really can’t be split -but for the sake of a final scorecard tally we’ll give it a go:

Gold Logie Best Personality: Waleed Aly*
It’s a tight battle between Waleed Aly and Lee Lin Chin, according to readers, with Carrie Bickmore in third place.

Silver Logie: Best Actor: Craig McLachlan*
ABC’s Dr. Blake just edged ahead of 800 Words star Erik Thomson in this category.

Silver Logie: Best Actress: Marta Dusseldorp*
Only three votes split Marta Dusseldorp, Essie Davis and Julia Morris. Any one of them can win this.

Silver Logie: Best Presenter: Waleed Aly*
Still a very close tussle between the two Project hosts, Waleed Aly and Carrie Bickmore.

Best New Talent: Joel Jackson
This one is a no-brainer. The other nominees aren’t even on the horizon.

Best Drama: A Place to Call Home*
Another category too close to realistically call, between A Place to Call Home and 800 Words -both produced by Seven.

Best Entertainment: Have You Been Paying Attention?
TEN’s panel show is out in front of Family Feud and Gruen.

Best News Panel or Current Affairs: The Project
Hand this one over now, it’s no contest. Q&A is second but no need to rehearse acceptance speeches.

Best Reality: MasterChef Australia
It’s a convincing lead for MasterChef over My Kitchen Rules and I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

Best Sports: NRL Footy Show
It’s always a tussle between NRL and AFL Footy Shows, but the northern states have the edge.

Best Lifestyle: The Living Room
TEN’s lifestyle show will win for the second year running, over multiple winner Better Homes and Gardens.

Best Factual: Gogglebox Australia
No contest. Gogglebox has this one in the bag, with Australian Story a distant second.

….and lastly, TV Tonight is tipping Denise Drysdale for the Hall of Fame award.

  1. Thank you for this David Knox….I don’t watch the Logies…(or even the Oscars these days)…but I do like to know who wins…Will await your post Logies piece….

  2. You almost tempt me to watch David. I’d be pretty happy with that parade of winners. Although, I did vote for Waleed originally, but now I want to hear Lee Lin’s acceptance speech.

  3. The Project might not be a ratings hit, but it has lasted for years now, and obviously the loyal viewers really resonate with the show and its presenters. Good luck to all the nominees.

  4. I hope Waleed Aly wins just to upset Alan Jones and Tom Elliott. They’re just about over saying goodbye to Tony Abbott so Waleed’s gold will probably push them over the edge.

  5. I’m hoping Grant Denyer wins something as my parents and I really love his sense of humour. Home and Away should win best drama. The storyline of who killed Charlotte had me hooked.

      1. Me too! When I heard TEN was relaunching FF with Grant Denyer I thought it was one of the worst ideas – tired format with cheesy host. How wrong. It’s great watching this with the family. He’s great at it.
As for the Logies, I thought they were getting “too slick” with not enough funny clips like they used to do – so its gotten bit boring. I was glad to read the report on TVT yesterday that Ex Producer Brent will acknowledge 60 years of TV.

Oh and Ding Dong for Hall of Fame!!! She’s always loved the logies and been a great fixture on Aus TV !!!

    1. I like Grants sense of humour on FF too. I’ve never been a fan of his, I actually found him quite annoying on other shows. He is doing a fantastic job on FF.
