Mildura TV risks losing Nine

Nine programming is still without an outlet in Mildura unless a last-ditch affiliate deal can be reached.

For Mildura readers who have been asking for an update on new affiliate arrangements, Sunraysia Daily reports Nine programming is still without an outlet unless a deal can be reached this week.

TEN titles will move to WIN from Friday.

Mildura joins regional Western Australia, Tasmania and regional South Australia awaiting a last minute deal.

  1. Nothing to do with Mildura but here in North QLD it has all the outward appearances of a complete shambles, was just watching Eleven with a Eleven Cartoon Wednesdays promo followed by all these Nine personalities with prominent WIN logo’s advertisement telling me how Nine is moving to 5 – but Southern Cross Ten is currently broadcast on Digital Ch 10 in my region so not really sure how helpful any of that info is to Eleven viewers!

The impression the layman would get is that none of the TV stations know what they are going to do after July 1st.

  2. Think the only way WIN & Bruce Gordon will sign any deals with Nine maybe is WIN insisting that Nine case it’s 9NOW streaming service, or pays WIN to stream? Is high time that all the Joint Venture licences were abolished and the monopoly markets in Griffith, Mt Gambier/Loxton and Port Pirie/Broken Hill were abolished and that three separate licences were made available in each of these areas to competing interests.

  3. I wonder what will happen when/if the Reach Rule is changed.
Is SCA playing their cards very close to their chest when they imply they want to concentrate on their radio network as opposed to the TV side of the biz?
Could a deal have already been done by the Backroom Boys to take over the 9 Network when/if the Reach Rule does change?
I’m sure the current 9 owners would flog it off very quickly if/when they could.
    Food for thought…

    1. The only reason is as I have explained a number of times. There are so many variables. I am reporting on the info that I have been supplied or stumbled across. It’s a work in progress.

      1. Was just curious if you were aware of news which differed to that published in articles on the topic in The Australian on 6/6 and 20/6, plus an article a couple of days ago on Mumbrella on Imparja changing sales affiliates which also discussed details on the affiliation battle which included the M.I.A. amongst the regions affected. Thanks.

    2. “every region currently without Nine affiliation except Griffith and the M.I.A.”.
?? Nine, Seven & TEN have affiliation in Griffith through the 3 networks provided by WIN Corporation WIN Corporation (WIN Television Griffith Pty. Ltd.). Nine still has an affiliation outlet in Griffith.
The original MTN9 broadcasts Seven, the newbies AMN & MDN carry Nine & TEN, so there doesn’t seem any reason to change anything – yet, hence nothing to report on – yet.

  4. As was said when Bob Hawke came up with this great “aggregation” plan for places like Mildura, the advertising pie is finite in size, an infinite number of new channels looking to be supported by the same size pie simply cannot work, for long. Now Nine has to do a deal with the WIN+Prime – owned third commercial channel to get their programs in. Anyway, Nine is conveniently streaming their programs into Mildura now for people who really want to watch Nine for an hour or two a week.

    1. ‘Now Nine has to do a deal with the WIN+Prime – owned third commercial channel to get their programs in.’ As far as I’m worried with WIN+Prime JV in Mildura/WA, will GEM be pushed back to HD?

    1. Mildura was not included in the “aggregation” map in the 80s as it was considered to be “too small”. In 1997 Prime brought the 2nd commercial station to town, with WIN & Prime generously starting the 3rd channel in 2006. So Mildura has had 3 commercial services in a failed experiment for only 10 years.

  5. Thanks David for always keeping all your readers informed. Extremely disappointing news. Maybe Turnbull or Shorten could come here this week with their campaign and discuss options for loyal viewers. Thank goodness I am not one of them, will happily view the only show I watch on WIN/9 – Love Child on my iPad, but feel for all those other viewers who will be without a network.
