Axed country music melodrama Nashville has found a new home in the US, confirmed for a fifth season on cable channel CMT.

The series starring Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere was cancelled last month by ABC, and finished with a cliffhanger, with producers confident it would find a new home.

At the time Lionsgate TV chairman Kevin Beggs said, “If we didn’t feel that was going to happen, we might have gone a different way.”

“CMT heard the fans. The wave of love and appreciation they have unleashed for Nashville has been overwhelming,” said Brian Philips, president of CMT, in a press statement. “We see our fans and ourselves in this show and we will treasure it like no other network. Nashville belongs on CMT.”

The deal with Lionsgate, ABC Studios should ensure no change for Australian fans, with SoHo expected to continue the series.

  1. As I do not have Foxtel, and no inclination to get it I have three seasons on DVD, eagerly waiting for Season4 to be on DVD in Australia. I really like the show. Great music etc.

  2. So happy it has been saved. Gound it on Netflix, which has the first 2 seasons. Just hope they show seasons 3 and 4 as well, so i can catch up

  3. I’m belatedly intrigued by this show. I havn’t seen an episode yet and four seasons is a lot to catch up with. Its a matter of when I will find the time. I’m on season four of Game of Thromes atm, as far as shows I’m catching up with.

  4. Having done my part in the Twitterspere I couldn’t find any info on what it would mean for Aussie Nashies – but of course you would have the inside scoop, David! Cheers

  5. Aaaaaaahhhhh!!!! this is great news. the last ep of s4 was amazing and can’t wait for it to return, hopefully to its roots of great music and exposing the hypocrisy of the industry.
