Nine is still to secure an affiliate deal in several regional markets, just two weeks before a July 1st deadline.

Nine is yet to secure an affiliate deal with TDT in Tasmania and with WIN in Mount Gambier and Riverland (SA) just two weeks before a July 1st deadline.

While TEN programs move to WIN and Southern Cross’s agreement with Seven will run for another two years in Tasmania.

“We have failed to date to make meaningful progress with the joint venture but continue to press for a solution to ensure Tasmanians continue to get the Nine programming they have enjoyed,” a spokeswoman told News Corp.

“We recognise the fee available for a single market is not what we would have previously received for a national affiliate agreement with WIN and so have approached the negotiations from that financial expectation.”

TDT boss Stephen Giles confirmed the negotiations were ongoing.

Meanwhile in South Australia rural towns including Keith, Bordertown, Mount Gambier, Naracoorte, Robe, Loxton, Waikerie and Berri may also be without Nine shows after June 30th.

“We have failed to date to make meaningful progress with WIN but continue to press for a solution,” Nine Network SA manager Sean O’Brien said.

“We want to ensure viewers in Mount Gambier, the Riverland and surrounding areas continue to get the Nine programming they have enjoyed.”

A WIN spokeswoman said late negotiations were not unusual and WIN remained in a commercial negotiation with Nine to continue broadcasting the channel.

  1. Since TDT is (partly) owned by SCA, Nine shouldn’t have any problems with getting their programming into that area. The real problem is in Mt Gambier and Riverland where there is no SCA broadcast. The only option that would be able to take affect by July 1st is to stay with WIN in that area. The other options are to bring SCA into those areas, try and get Impaja to start broadcasting into those areas or just start broadcasting Nine into those areas like what they do with Darwin. Good luck with Mt Gambier and Riverland, Nine

    1. Nine owns NTD Darwin and is licenced to broadcast there. Nine is not licenced to “just start broadcasting Nine into” SE SA. Imparja is not licenced to broadcast there. SCA is not licenced to broadcast in SE SA and has no infrastructure there.
TDT is part-owned by SCA, who is being pressured by Seven to increase its affiliation fees by some 15% for Tasmania. SCA will want to see the TDT Nine fee drop accordingly. WIN is the other half of TDT and, likewise, will want the minimum fee going to Nine.

  2. Interesting situation, if Nine do not go to TDT, will they be without programmes or will they still show TEN output.
Interestingly also that TDT are screening Nine promos. Nine on Five
