60 Minutes producer Stephen Rice was offered a “gracious exit” by Nine but declined, according to a media report today.

That left Nine CEO Hugh Marks to terminate his contract.

There is no let-up in the fiasco embroiling Nine, despite releasing its review findings last week.

A series of reports today claims:

  • Lebanese authorities looking at Nine report may yet press charges against Tara Brown, Stephen Rice, Ben Williamson and David Ballment.
  • If found guilty they could face extradition and a 3 yr prison term.
  • A suspended sentence could impact international travel
  • Allegations Rice made a series of mistakes in Beirut and told crew not to contact Nine’s head office in Sydney.
  • Lawyer John Laxon criticises Nine for prejudicing legal proceedings in Lebanon.
  • Ali Elamine paid $500,000 in damages and his extended family a further $500,000.
  • The judge is to hand the report to the prosecutor in coming days then it would be at least 10 days before the prosecutor makes a decision.
  • Nine could be sued for damages by the state of Lebanon for financing the attempted kidnapping of two children in Beirut.

Those articles are at The Australian, Daily Telegraph and Herald Sun.

  1. “gracious exit” says to me that he wasn’t happy with what they were going to pay him. They’ll settle out of court and Rice will be given a job on Sunday Night is my prediction.

    1. That’s a card to possibly be played later in the game. I expect that the mother will tell her story to one of the women’s mags in the not too distant future. After the legal proceedings in Lebanon have concluded would be most prudent. Brown will prob have her bit on ACA or interview herself on 60 Minutes.
