Blame Canada for this week’s episode of RocKwiz as it pays tribute to Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young and The Band.
What no Bryan Adams?
This episode pays tribute to the music of the second largest country in the world. Up-and- coming singer-songwriter Olympia performs Joni Mitchell’s ‘Free Man in Paris’. Brian Cadd, a long-time fan of The Band plays keyboards and sings on ‘The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down’ as well as Paul Dempsey’s version of the Leonard Cohen song ‘First We Take Manhattan’, with Vika and Linda Bull adding distinctive backing vocals.
There are questions and riffs based on the music of The Guess Who, Alanis Morissette and Rufus Wainwright, and the episode closes with all the singers on a powerful version of Neil Young’s ‘Rocking in the Free World’ with an explosive guitar solo from Ashley Naylor.
8:30pm Saturday on SBS.
