WA Producer Brian Beaton, who produced 7 seasons of Who Do You Think You Are?, has died.

He died suddenly last week.

At WA-based production company Artemis he produced Shaun Micallef’s Stairway to Heaven, The Dreamhouse, Desperately Seeking Sheila and Rosie.

In a statement Screen Producers Australia said, “Brian’s talents as a documentary producer are evident, demonstrated by a string of successful productions and awards. However, what might be less known was his tireless campaigning and passionate representation of independent producers.

“Brian was a Screen Producers Australia Councillor for several years and had a long commitment to both the Australian International Documentary Conference and the Australian Film, Television and Radio School.

“Brian was loyal and engaging, advancing and driving many and varied discussions in a calm, considered and pragmatic way. He was deeply involved in the cut and thrust of Screen Producers Australia’s policy work for decades. He attended every possible gathering of our production community and was a welcomed fixture at Screen Forever.

“Our thoughts are with his family and his colleges at Artemis. Brian will be missed by the screen industry as a whole, in particular the tightknit documentary production community in Western Australian who have worked closest with him.”
