Comedian Ronny Chieng has been named as one of 10 “comics to watch” by US showbiz bible, Variety.
Selected by a team of Variety editors based on extensive polling of the professional comedy community — those who scout, book, represent, produce and cast comics on a daily basis — Chieng will be profiled in the July 19 issue of Variety and honoured at the upcoming Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal.
Ronny Chieng, currently appearing on “The Daily Show With Trevor Noah,” his most current stand-up specials are “Chieng Reaction” and “You Don’t Know What You’re Talking About.” He has opened for Dave Chappelle and Bill Burr and sold out comedy tours at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the Sydney Opera House.
Their annual list began in 2000 with names having included Louis C.K., Zach Galifianakis and Patton Oswalt, T.J. Miller and Rebel Wilson.
Currently contributing to The Daily Show With Trevor Noah, the Malaysian-born Aussie comedian is surely in demand. His recent pilot Ronny Chieng: International Student is one of 6 projects in contention for a full ABC series and is currently leading polling according to TV Tonight readers.
If that proceeds, finding time in his calendar may be his biggest problem.

Ronnie Chieng is quite talented!! I hope he gets the full series. I agree with others here that International Student was easily the best of the six
The first time I saw Ronnie was on Sydneys now defunct community TV…a show called Community Kitchen…immediately liked him….was impressed enough to tell others…
It is on you tube….Ronny Chieng – Community Kitchen – S01E02
Same here.
The best of the six for sure.
Have a feeling it will win – just hope Ronny is able to sustain a whole series if it does…
Not about “winning” per se and ABC has always said it may pick up more than one.
Yes, a good showcase for all the comedians involved.
Hope the ABC also pick up Edie Perfect’s The Future is Expensive – thought that was the next best pilot.
I really hope International Student wins the full series. It was the funniest, but I know how subjective comedy is.
I found it to be the best of the bunch.
