Laurie Oakes thwarted plans by a betting agency which had been running a book on the colour of his tie on election night (seriously).
The veteran broadcaster wore no less than six different coloured ties, causing them to pay out on all bets: handing a total of $3,010 to 57 punters.
Oakes donned a red, green, gold, striped, black and dark patterned tie during the coverage.
“Malcolm Turnbull might not be a winner tonight and Bill Shorten might not be a winner but there are a lot of winners here and I am very pleased about that,” he said.
Nice one.

And all with a straight face…LOLOLOL
On a serious note the fact Sportsbet are allowed to open markets on something like this is everything that’s wrong with these betting companies.
And a good deal of what’s wrong with our political system…
In the UK the betting agencies have markets on the actor who will be the next Doctor on Doctor Who.
And here too.
What worse is that some betting sites actually have credit divisions and offer (like a payday type) loans up to 5000 dollars to their punters. I nearly choked when I found this out.
The man obviously has a sense of humour and doesn’t mind poking the gambling industry in the eye. Maybe he’ll stand as a NXT candidate next time around? 😉
Haha! Good on him.
