MasterChef on high, Sunday Night beats 60 Minutes.

Ratings: Cooking contest draws its best figures all year, but multichannels put Seven across the line.

The quarter-final of MasterChef Australia drew its best audience all season with 1.32m viewers, putting it on track for two more drawcards tonight and tomorrow.

The show also topped the demos and helped TEN to the leading primary channel share last night. TEN even claimed it as their best Sunday share in 5 years. That came despite all other offerings under the 500k mark.

Sunday Night‘s story on killer Carl Williams (928,000) outranked the return of Tara Brown on 60 Minutes (756,000) -the latter was also well down on last week’s 932,000.

There were slight rises for Border Security, David Attenborough’s The Hunt and Grand Designs NZ.

In the end multichannels helped Seven and Nine to finish ahead of TEN.

Seven network won Sunday with 28.1% then Nine 25.6%, TEN 25.4%, ABC 14.4% and SBS 6.5%.

Seven News (1.21m) led for Seven then Sunday Night (928,000), Border Security (732,000) and Billy Connolly’s Tracks Across America (448,000). Bones was 286,000 / 182,000.

Nine News (1.16m) led for Nine followed by 60 Minutes (756,000) and David Attenborough’s The Hunt (563,000). Movie: The Expendables was 332,000.

MasterChef Australia was #1 with 1.32m for TEN. The Great Australian Spelling Bee rose slightly to 484,000. Movie: Star Trek: Into Darkness was 338,000 and TEN Eyewitness News drew 366,000.

ABC News (726,000), Grand Designs New Zealand (667,000) and Barracuda (423,000) comprised ABC’s night. Stop Laughing This is Serious was 301,000 and Compass was 269,000.

On SBS it was Ice Station Antarctica (249,000), Rome: Empire Without Limit (234,000), Grand Tours of Scotland (168,000) and SBS World News (165,000).

ABC2’s Hey Duggee topped multichannel with 221,000.

  1. I have watched the first two episodes of grand designs nz and thought it was interesting. Not a show I would normally gravitate to and something that I would probably dip in and out of going forward.

  2. Ten needs a new show 1hr show for after Masterchef next year, now is the time to find something and build it so It can follow next yrs Masterchef. It should be an entertainment show of some sort similar to Rove live.

  3. Ten need to reconsider their start time of 6.30pm Sunday for their Sunday night primetime. Seven and Nines news is so strong l doubt MKR could tackle it and come out on top. Spelling Bee should start at 7pm to have any chance.
