Miss Fisher feature is written

More Miss Fisher? Producer explores a feature film and a 4th season co-production with Ireland.

There’s been some chatter about this for a while but for those awaiting news of the ever-popular Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, producer Fiona Eagger has told Screen Australia a feature film is in the works and a fourth season has been explored as a co-production with Ireland.

“The first two series of Miss Fisher were supported by Screen Australia and a very substantial advance from all3media helped make up the financing shortfall in season three. Miss Fisher has been growing in value with each new season and if we were to make a fourth it would mean previous seasons would be repurchased to play again – especially by SVOD (subscription video on demand) and pay TV because they generally buy much shorter runs than broadcasters, sometimes only 12 months,” she said recently.

“Shows have to have a domestic broadcaster. If they didn’t there would be a big hole in your finance plan. We have looked at doing a fourth as a co-production with Ireland.

“Essie (Davis) is now living in London – she had a part in season six of Game of Thrones. A 13-part series requires her to be here for half a year so we’ll be lucky to get her back for a fourth. But she has committed to a feature and it’s written.

“You have to know your product and listen to your distributors. Not everything appeals internationally and that’s OK.”

Every Cloud Productions is now in pre-production on its next drama Newton’s Law.

  1. With all due respect, @Jennome, I find your comment laughable. I personally can’t imagine a stronger portrayal of the character of Jack than that offered by Nathan Page. Phryne is the hero here – the alpha female. In choosing to portray Jack with quiet confidence, elegance, dry wit, and fierce intelligence, Page has provided the perfect counterpoint to Essie Davis’ Phryne. Nathan Page’s grasp of the power of understatement is what first drew me to this show, and it is what has held my attention. His Jack is not threatened by Phryne. He does not compete with her. He applauds her intelligence, marvels at her courage, and champions her power. Jack understands that Phryne truly doesn’t need any man, which is precisely what attracts her to him. Loud, brash male characters are everywhere on television. There is only one Jack Robinson. And there is only one Nathan Page.

  2. Let’s hope they get a decent, strong actor to play Jack, or his replacement. The current guy was as wishy-washy as all get out, although the scripts didn’t help. There’s no way Phrynee would ever be attracted to him “in real life”.
