Stan announces exclusive Sherlock deal

Stan secures Season 4 -plus all future seasons- of Benedict Cumberbatch mystery as SVOD exclusives.

Stan and BBC Worldwide Australia & New Zealand have announced a licensing agreement that secures Sherlock season four, and any future seasons as SVOD exclusives.

The deal will see three new episodes of the fourth season in 2017 at the same time as the worldwide premiere.

The first trailer for series four was unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend, with guest star Toby Jones, who joins as a new villain. Season four begins with Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch), back once more on British soil, as Doctor Watson (Martin Freeman) and his wife Mary (Amanda Abbington) prepare for their biggest ever challenge – becoming parents for the first time.

At Comic-Con Sherlock panellists also teased fans with the announcement of three key names: Thatcher, Smith and Sherrinford.

Series Producer Sue Vertue said: “We’re thrilled to be partnering with Stan on series four. They’ve been a very supportive partner for Sherlock in Australia and we look forward to working with them on the forthcoming season.”

Nick Forward, Stan’s Chief Content Officer, said: “Sherlock: The Abominable Bride has been one of Stan’s most successful exclusive premieres ever. We are thrilled to extend our partnership with BBC Worldwide ANZ, making Stan the home of Sherlock, and we are looking forward to bringing every new episode of Sherlock to Australian fans first and exclusively on Stan.”

  1. Not bothered by this. I wasn’t impressed with the sherlock telemovie that came out this year and only watched half. This looks better than the telemovie but I’ve noticed that british stuff comes out pretty quickly on dvd so if the library chooses to get it I probably won’t have to wait more that a couple of months. If not than thats ok. I gave the show a go because it aired on channel 9. I don’t like the fact that later seasons of shows that I started watching on channel 9 (or multichannels) like sherlock and the last ship are now only available on stan. There’s nothing I can do about it but not trust 9 with my overseas drama viewing anymore because this has happened one too many times.
