True Blood: the stage musical?

Could Sookie, Bill & Eric become Broadway characters?

Sink your fangs into a True Blood musical? Possibly.

Last week it was reported a True Blood is in development in New York.

NY Post reports a workshop was recently presented featuring Ellen Foley, Claybourne Elder and Ann Harada. The music is by Nathan Barr, who scored the original HBO series while Elizabeth Scott (who wrote the novel “Living Dead Girl”) is writing the book and lyrics, with Pam MacKinnon as director.

Series creator Alan Ball is said to be keeping an eye on the stage version.

The Addams Family, originally a comic strip, is arguably the most successful TV to stage musical with an 18 month Broadway run. The Brady Bunch, Gilligan’s Island and Smash have also treaded the boards in musical form.

  1. Considering the way they butchered the brand with the last couple of seasons, I wonder if there’s any market for this at all. Now Game of Thrones the musical by Coldplay would outrun Cats ?

  2. I hope it works, and I may be harsh, but it does seem a like a cynical attempt to appeal to the captive audience of the TV show’s fans. Concepts like this exemplify how a musical like Hamilton can capture the public’s imagination with energy and originality.
