60 Minutes reporter Michael Usher has quit Nine to join Seven.

In the latest blow to Nine’s current affairs programme, Usher leaves the network after 23 years.

A graduate of the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts, he joined National Nine News following a stint at the Golden West Television Network in Bunbury.

Seven Network Director of News and Public Affairs Craig McPherson said: “We couldn’t be more pleased to have Michael joining Australia’s number one news team.

“Widely regarded as one of the country’s foremost investigative journalists, his passion and experience will further strengthen our dedicated team. Michael will be instrumental in future news programming including presenting the Seven News Investigates series currently in production”.

Usher recently fronted 60 Minutes to tell viewers “We made mistakes,” following its debacle in Lebanon.

At Nine he has also been a US correspondent, Nightline presenter and occasional A Current Affair presenter.

  1. I’m probably not the only person to immediately think “Potential future replacement for Mark Ferguson as Seven Sydney’s Sunday-Thursday 6pm newsreader” after hearing about this story!

  2. This is great news for 7..now they are one step closer to getting a decent news reader for their 6pm bulletin. I have thought for a long time that Michael Usher would be a great weeknight newsreader. He proved this on Nightline.

  3. Wasn’t expecting this one even with all the 60 mins drama this year. Apart from Karl who else do you think will in with a chance at the role?

  4. i like Michael Usher. good luck to him.

Hey David I think the following: to fill Michael position at 60minutes- Karl Stefanovic will probably leaving the TodayShow and do 60minutes full-time and Tim McMillian from Perth will join Lisa Wilkinson as new co-host of the TodayShow
