Cult Cartoon Network series Adventure Time will end in 2018.

The series created by Pendleton Ward follows a boy named Jake the Dog and Finn the Human. Since premiering in 2010 it has earned a slew of awards. Guest stars have included Andy Samberg, Matthew Broderick, Laura Silverman, George Takei, Rainn Wilson, and Neil Patrick Harris.

But there is good news.

In an official statement, Cartoon Network promised the final run of episodes will encompass ”142 half-hours of content,” which includes new episodes, miniseries, specials, and some mysterious “more.”

Adventure Time was a passion project for the people on the crew who poured their heart into the art and stories,” said Ward in a statement. “We tried to put into every episode something genuine and telling from our lives, and make a show that was personal to us, and that had jokes too! I’m really happy that it connected with an audience for so long. It’s a special thing, I think.”

Cartoon Network also recently announced the end for Regular Show in early 2017.

    1. Thanks for feedback. The site uses a number of headline formats: Axed, Renewed, Returning, Airdate etc. This makes them easier for archival searching. As you note the show is ending, so a decision to discontinue is either made by network or creatives. Where the show still has a season to run I also indicate this clearly in the headline.
