Two ‘niche’ US shows have been recently axed in the US: Mistresses and Sex & Drugs & Rock and Roll.
Mistresses has been cancelled by ABC after 4 seasons.
The US series about a group of female friends whose lives are complicated by their relationships is based on the UK series of the same name. The series featured Rochelle Aytes, Yunjin Kim, Jes Macallan, Tabrett Bethell plus Jennifer Esposito and Alyssa Milano.
Mistresses has aired in Australia on Seven.
Meanwhile Dennis Leary’s Sex & Drugs & Rock and Roll has been cancelled by FX after two seasons.
Leary created, starred and exec produced the series for which he also wrote the music. He played Johnny Rock, an egomaniacal fifty-something has-been musician who’s dying for fame, and starred alongside John Corbett, Elizabeth Gillies, Elaine Hendrix, Robert Kelly and John Ales.
The half-hour rock-n-roll comedy wrapped up its second season in the US earlier this month with just 450,000 viewers — which will now serve as the series finale.
That season will premiere in Australia next Monday at 10:30pm on ONE.

Minor typo David: Mistresses aired on ABC in the US, not NBC.
Thanks.
SD&RR was a great series but I imagine the rights to all the music would have pushed this over the edge budget wise.
That’s a shame. I liked Sex & Drugs & Rock and Roll…
We are still waiting for season 3 here in Oz! Hopefully later this year.
Season 4 is about to start on Foxtel on Monday.
Sorry my mistake, I was thinking of Devious Maids.
Jess M and Alyssa M’s characters would have to be the least likely looking natural sisters ever-bizarre casting-‘Sex etc’ was OK but the limited format was going to get repetitious pretty quickly.
