Seven may have led with The Chase and Seven News but it was bad news on Monday from there.

I’ve watched survivor and it looks cheap compared to the US version, there’s no slick aerials and the challenge i watched was people throwing bean bags, it’s looked like the Big Adventure. I think the format is a little old fashioned for contemp audiences? As for Zumbo, it’s just wooden and the first episode I watched was just wall to wall talking, there was no gloss like the British version and very little time to hang in the moment with the characters, all clipped and propped within an inch of their life to make a staccato narrative. I am mystified as to why Seven keep investing in the same people to make the same shows that invariably amount to less than average television, can someone explain why?
Are you and I watching the same show? This edition of Aus Survivor looks comparable to the US show and I hope the high production standard continues.
Reuben, US version has thrown hundreds of beanbags. Keep up.
Survivor deserves so much better then 662,000.
At least it beat Zumbo (although only by 5,000).
How could The Block beat Survivor by 241,000? As far as I can tell, The Block has only gotten what I call a new coat of paint with the new contestants. The format of The Block I don’t think has changed at all.
I agree. Survivor is killing it and deserves much better ratings than the other two tedious major offerings.
I saw enough of the promos during the Olympics, I was sick of Zombo already before the first episode went to air. It’s nothing more than a D grade ripoff of Masterchef.
Q&A? It needs a total overhaul, starting with a new host – Tony Jones is part of the problem. And most episodes resemble a left wing inner city Sydney or Melbourne lovein, with the token right wing person put on the panel to play the villain. An example was last night – a discussion on Shakespeare was really a front to let Germaine Greer dominate the hour and be worshipped by the adoring audience and the social media crowd.
I had planned to watch Zumbo as I thought it’d be like Bake Off. When I realized its just My Dessert Rules, I didn’t even bother.
Sad to see HYBPA getting impacted by Survivor’s scheduling. Last night’s lineup was an absolute ripper.
While HYBPA is off its highs, 700K for a 9pm start is pretty impressive.
True enough, but it would do better with an 8:30 slot. (Or at least 8:30ish…)
I don’t think starting Survivor at 7pm on Sundaybwill make any difference. It would still get pummelled by the competition regardless of the start time
That said I am loving the show, excited for the tribal merge tonight
It was reported in the paper this morning that Ashley, one of the contestants on Zumbo’s Just Desserts ran his own successful dessert store before appearing on the series, throwing into doubt claims participants on the series are amateur home cooks. Ashley pumped out thousands of multi-coloured meringues, cakes and tarts to sweet-toothed customers from his store Charlie Buckett in Elwood. The 7 network’s claim that this show is for amateur cooks is looking a little bit dodgy.
Hmm…yep…just Googled….Facebook page…pic of Ashley…was on Instagram but it and the web page have been deleted…..Story was in SMH ..Sept. 1st.
Only hardcore ABC viewers can stomach Q&A these days. Needs a refresh.
Couldn’t agree with you more Nick. I stopped watching ages ago when it became clear that the left, right and middle balance for an even debate clearly shifted to the left.
It was hardly Question and Answer, more like a love-in.
Two things here: 1) Seven can’t expect success simply by copying other cooking shows with Zumbo. It even appears cooking generally doesn’t work best for them if it’s not MKR. 2) Clear evidence that Survivor is lost on Sundays (Whether thats lead in, not starting at 7.30 or simply the strong competition).
Good to see Aus Survivor getting a lift from The Project.
Now, for Ten to get it off Sunday nights!
Stupid to start it at 7.30pm. Put it head to head with the others. Tens past strength was when it launched their shows at 7pm.
Looks like Zumbo got his just dessert.
He was creamed
As a Block watcher because of my partner of the last two years we are starting to get sick of the same old thing all week of the drama and crying on the block so last night we did not watch it we are going to just watch sunday night only now
we are first times watching married at first sight and are enjoying it
Not just that but a contestant from ZJD started crying because she made a mistake last night. It really made me think that a lot of disturbing scenes happened around the cooking place.
