“Our sincere apologies,” Seven News Melbourne presenter Peter Mitchell told viewers on Friday night. “We have been having some technical issues which we hope have been resolved.”

Melbourne viewers were instead greeted by Sydney’s Mark Ferguson presenting stories on Wollongong and Leeton.

But after 6 minutes all was right with the world as Peter Mitchell explained.

HSV7 managing director Lewis Martin told the Herald Sun the glitch was due to a system failure out of their Melbourne headquarters.

“It was beautifully handled by our team,” he said.

“Everyone remained incredibly calm, it was a brilliant team effort.

“We were able to cross to Sydney so no one missed out on anything.

“These things happen.”

  1. They were lucky they had another news bulletin to throw to. I wonder what would happen if the technical issues happened in, say, Adelaide or Perth where there is no other Channel Seven capital city news bulletin to throw too?

  2. So sorry we infected you with our “Sydney” news. Actually, it was a Wollongong story, a stabbing in a high school, blade still in victim. Carried by other stations a their lead item. Leeton story was not a “Sydney” story either. It was re the release of the brother of the Leeton school teacher murderer. Again, carried by all other stations. HSV7 would have run both items anyway.

  3. What’s different, we get Sydney based news all the time. Every time I see Juanita Phillips reading news on the ABC, that’s obviously out of Sydney. Ditto the commercial stations, easily picked when they cover an accident, fire or some such where they fail to mention where it happens, you can guarantee it’s not Melbourne. Just a quick check for yellow number plates tells it all. I really find it most annoying.

  4. “Everyone remained incredibly calm, it was a brilliant team effort.” – Just as they did in the old days when the film broke or the videotape wasn’t ready. Lewis, you may find that being “calm” during a “technical glitch” is quite normal, even at HSV7.
Did they really have to cut the end off of the Leeton story? Transition was poorly done.

    1. Agreed, they should have waited til the end of that segment. I feel a bit sorry for Melbourne viewers, that Sydney news was a bit parochial. Although Seven News revels in that stuff for some reason. Rest of the world be damned.
