Richie chooses Alex in paradise finale

Bachelor follows his heart and chooses Alex over Nikki, but social media sees things differently.

Richie Strahan chose Alex Nation in the season finale of The Bachelor last night.

The Bali-based finale saw him let down WA real estate agent Nikki Gogan gently by telling her he was “following his heart” to the 24 year old venue manager from Melbourne.

It is the second time a Bachelor has chosen a single mother, with Alex a mother to 5 year old son, Elijah.

“I have thought about you. I have thought about Elijah. And I thought, ‘Am I man enough to take on that responsibility?’ And I really feel I am,” he said.

“Coming on this adventure Alex, I was told to follow my heart. And following my heart has led me to you. I love you, Alex,” he said.

“Alex, you’re the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with.”

But like an UnReal episode it kept viewers guessing until the end, with speculative press articles dissecting every aspect of paparazzi shots and telltale interviews. Last year The Bachelorette finale was spoiled by paparazzo shots, resulting in court orders. This year the show was under just as much scrutiny.

But it wasn’t an entirely fairytale ending. On social media last night many were disappointed Richie didn’t choose Nikki, who departed the show without any regrets or criticisms of the man she said she fell in love with. Such fandom place her perfectly as a prime candidate for The Bachelorette 2017.

Kept apart under veiled secrecy, Alex and Richie now embark on a round of press interviews and appearances while TEN keeps the romance alive with Georgia Love as The Bachelorette in the show’s premiere next Wednesday night.

  1. I also thought that Nikki would be the one.She seemed natural & genuine– where Alex wanted, from the start,to win.The intense competition between her and Rachel was off-putting.I felt that Alex was more calculating & will be determined to get her own way.She may be somewhat sulky.

  2. Interesting result. Really thought Richie would have picked Nikki but if he is happy then I wish him and Alex all the happiness. I was not a big fan of this season tbh but kept watching til the end.
I read a lot of comments on social media last night and I am shocked to the degree of insults people are happy to post about his choice. I haven’t quite figured out why people get so fired up on social media about reality tv. Imagine if in the real world 2000+ people commented on who people chose to date/love/marry?
I wonder if contestants are given the low down before signing up to reality tv by psychologists and producers? Many of the comments I have read on The Bachelor Australia Facebook page have been awful across the season and if it was me would not want to read what people thought of me.

    1. I agree, it amazes me that people thin they have a right to be so insulting. It is good that people get passionate about their shows, but they have to remember that it stars people who are real (critique that if you have to) and have their own feelings.
