  1. Just don’t get why Survivor isn’t getting better numbers, especially when there is so much positive talk about it. I understand what people are saying about the episode length and the amount of episodes a week – I generally prefer a one hour (42 min) show and only once a week but when it’s up against The Block which goes long and stripped as well it doesn’t make sense to me, The Block is so stale.

  2. Season 2 of Narcos came out 2/9. Fri & Sat were ride offs so the binge came on the Sunday. I think release dates for popular shows on Netflix need to be taken serious by a networks programming. Most people will binge on the shows they love and watch them through asap. When OITNB, GOT and TWD come out i’d be bracing for a drop in ratings for at least the week after they air. As for Survivor it’s just The Big Adventure with more bitching and a smaller prize but for production value it scores big. It looks great.

  3. I agree about Survivor. I can’t find fault with its technical side. It is as good – probably better – than the US version. The problem is too many contestants, it is way too long and three nights in a row is excessive. The beauty of the US version is its snappy editing. It was 42 minutes long – not 60 or 70 minutes like the Australian version. And there really is no need for three nights in a row. Having said that – I too cannot believe The Block is still popular – especially since this is the third series this year (including the disastrous Reno Rumble). And as for the music quiz show – Rockwiz and Spicks and Specks did it so much better.

    1. I can only presume that those of us who post here are a bit more discerning than the greater volume watching The Tired Block. We are loving Survivor, although I agree with the fact that each episode is a little too long. I would be interested to see the time-shifted figures, as I think that when a show goes longer than the hour, most people want to watch a recording to reduce it down to a manageable time.

  4. Ouch for Survivor – I actually think Channel 10 has done a good job with the production side and replicating the elements of the U.S version as much as possible. The problems are too many contestants, and then the dumb decision to run it over 3 nights, instead of one or two.
I’d never watch anything hosted by Darren McMullen, so I hope that Music Quiz Show’s audience continues to drop off next Sunday night.
Why The Block stays popular is beyond me, surely it’s a tired old format by now……..maybe people are still into renovating houses and so on, more than I thought?
I watched Vera last night………a 2 year old episode, but a good one regardless. The ABC should try and fast track Series 6, if they can
