New details have emerged surrounding the Paris robbery involving Kim Kardashian, in which over $AU13m of jewellery was stolen.

The French Interior Ministry has said five men threatened a concierge with a weapon, handcuffed him and forced him to open Kardashian’s private apartment. The Paris prosecutor’s office told the Associated Press only two of the five suspects forced their way into the apartment.

According to a source with knowledge of the hotel’s security, the men overcame the lone overnight watchman on duty, took the key to the apartment and ran around the building until they found the right location.

One of Kardashian’s rings, worth an estimated $US4.49 million, as well as a jewellery box, worth an estimated $US5.6 million, were stolen.

The five men escaped on bikes. They are still at large. Police took surveillance footage from inside and outside the hotel to assist in their investigation.

E! News reported Kardashian was gagged and bound at her hands and feet, then handcuffed and held at gunpoint. “She begged for them to let her live and [said] she has babies at home. Then they wrapped her mouth in tape and put her in the bathtub.”

Kardashian’s children, North West and Saint West, were reportedly not in the room.

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo condemned the attack on Twitter Monday, saying: “This very rare act occurred in a private space and does not in any way call into question the work of the police and the security of the public space.”
