NRL drives Nine to ratings week

Ratings: Sport dominated Nine's week, while Seven led a new drama race.

With the NRL Grand Final pulling a whopping 2.65m viewers, last week was Nine’s to lose.

Despite Seven scoring weeknight wins, it wasn’t enough to pull ahead to take the prize.

Nine easily won the demos 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54.

Seven won Monday – Friday. Nine scored Sunday and Saturday. ABC bettered TEN on Sunday, Monday and Saturday.

Nine ranked first in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Seven held Adelaide and Perth.

The Block finished ahead of X Factor but Secret Daughter was the week’s top drama in a busy week. SBS coded Deep Water‘s two episodes the same, meaning its 380,000 premiere has been averaged to 290,000.

Nine: NRL (Grand Final: 2.65m), Nine News (Sun: 1.18m), The Block (Tues: 930,000) and Hyde & Seek (878,000).

Seven: Seven News (1.02m), The X Factor (Mon: 904,000), The Secret Daughter (899,000) and Better Homes and Gardens (814,000).

TEN: Gogglebox (691,000), Have You Been Paying Attention? (683,000), Australian Survivor (682,000) and The Bachelorette (588,000).

ABC: ABC News (Sat: 838,000), Gruen (829,000), Australian Story (783,000) and Anh’s Brush with Fame (674,000).

SBS: Great American Railroad Journeys (373,000), Who Do You Think You Are? (334,000), Deep Water (290,000) and Million Dollar American Princesses (234,000).

    1. Not sure what i mean. If the AFL was shown in prime time, (that is same as NRL’s time-slot) its TV ratings would easy double. At present there showing the AFL when half of australia are not at home (there working,shopping,travelling etc) NRL wouldn’t dare to play their GF on a saturday afternoon – it TV ratings would be reduce greatly.

      2. The AFL ratings would probably increase (which is why Gil wants to move them) but I doubt they would double. I imagine most AFL fans would make the time to watch the GF instead of going shopping or working. If is the more casual fan that would be drawn in by a night GF but again people go out on Saturday nights typically so maybe it isn’t a great timeslot.

        And yes, NRL ratings would decrease with a day grand final which is why they are at night, but again, not greatly, but they would be less.
