After all those Emmy accolades it’s no wonder anthology series American Crime Story has been renewed for a third season of 10 episodes.

A second season, which looks at the Hurricane Katrina saga is already due in 2017.

Now Ryan Murphy will oversee a third season set to explore the July 1997 assassination of designer Gianni Versace, based on Vanity Fair writer Maureen Orth’s book Vulgar Favors. Writer Tom Rob Smith is set to pen at least the first two episodes.

Police in Miami were on the verge of capturing serial killer Andrew Cunanan, wanted for five slayings, when he committed suicide 8 days after Versace’s death.

Both second and third seasons will film concurrently in early 2017 with the Versace murder likely to be in 2018.

American Crime Story airs in Australia on TEN.
