Rumour: Plans for new-look Dancing shelved

What plans were afoot for a new-look Dancing with the Stars when FremantleMedia Australia got the news from Seven?

The news that Seven would not return Dancing with the Stars follows industry chatter that Seven had been casting for a new host with rumours nice-guy Rob Mills had edged out Joel Creasey for the plum job.

But yesterday Seven confirmed it would not be returning in 2017, just days before the network Upfronts (or “Newfronts” as the network prefers to call them).

“We’ve had a great deal of enjoyment and fun during the incredible 12 years of tulle and twirling Dancing has given us all. The audience numbers from the last season were disappointing though, and the show will not return in 2017,” a Seven spokesperson said.

Rumours suggest Seven made the call on the weekend not to return the show, telling FremantleMedia Australia it would not be pursuing the first cast names it had lined up for 2017.

It’s not clear if FMA will explore other options for the show.

  1. My family and I only saw a couple episodes of Dancing’s last season so Seven axing it wasn’t that big a shock to me. We would have liked an All-Stars version that featured all the winners and runners-up competing against each other.
