More speculation changes are coming to SKY News ownership.

There are now rumours Seven West Media is keen to sell its one third share of Australian News Channel, parent organisation to SKY News.

The Australian reports Seven West Media had been keen to retain its interests but “has had a change of heart.”

ANC is jointly owned by Seven, Nine and Britain’s SKY (which is itself 39.3 per cent owned by 21st Century FOX).

With Nine said to be keen to also exit, News Corp is tipped to become the sole owner of Sky News Australia -a move that some have suggested could even impact TEN News.

The Australian suggests Nine and Seven would continue to provide content for the channel under a separate deal.

  1. Sky News usually thrives during periods of political controversy, I’m not sure how it fairs the rest of the time. Apart from the stoic David Speers the rest of Sky News paid commentators need to find out what being impartial and unbiased means.

      1. thank you. interesting times ahead considering in the last two weeks Ten News has experienced a rating dive with its nightly news. I know it usually gets hit with daylight savings but this is quite a drop.

  2. I’m not surprised Seven is selling. They’ve been shoved to the side by Nine and Fox and the station is regarded as merely a mouthpiece for Rupert Murdoch, and is regarded the same way as Fox News is in the US. It has no credibility whatsoever. Besides that, the return on investment for Seven has been negligible seeing how it is a pay TV channel which comes in at or near the bottom of the Foxtel ratings in each survey. Malcolm Turnbull wasn’t lying when he said that only around 100 people are watching Sky News at any one time and that he would be wasting his time appearing on the channel.

    1. Yes Sky News has no credibility because the infomercials that the commercial networks pass off as news stories are so credible? As for mouthpieces the ABC is merely the mouthpiece for the left and minority groups. Does that make their news not credible too?

Not quite – Sky has seen massive growth the last 12 months. It often has 2-3 shows in the Top 20 nightly shows on cable. About 5 shows in the top 320 if you strip out Sport – which dominates.

The most recent survey of September has Sky as the 8th most watched cable channel on all of Foxtel – over 100 channels. It’s been as high as #4 this year – during election week. And has settled at #7 – #10 since then.
