The Block beats X Factor, but Seven takes Tuesday.

Ratings: Younger viewers show more interest in renovation & island survival than singing. 800 Words lifts for its finale.

The Block has pipped The X Factor for the second night in a row.

Nine’s reno show drew 931,000 viewers, just ahead of Seven’s talent series on 895,000 -just down from Monday’s debut of 904,000. The Block also topped the Demos with Australian Survivor, fourth in its timeslot, landing second in younger demos.

The debut of Todd Sampson’s Bodyhack  drew 588,000 for TEN and was particularly strong in older demos. The double season finale of 800 Words won the timeslot, well up on last week, with Unreal Estate in second place.

Mal Meninga’s Who Do You Think You Are? was best on SBS at 341,000.

Seven Network won with 31.5% then Nine 26.3%, TEN 19.25, ABC 16.25 and SBS 6.8%.

Seven News was #1 with 1.08m / 1.05m for Seven then The X Factor (895,000), 800 Words (800,000 / 728,000),  Home and Away (725,000) and The Chase (640,000 / 439,000).

Nine News (995,000 /980,000) was best for Nine followed by The Block (931,000), A Current Affair (814,000), Unreal Estate (647,000) and Hot Seat (511,000). Million Dollar Movers drew just 250,000.

Australian Survivor (660,000) was best for TEN. The Project drew 635,000 / 421,000, Todd Sampson’s BodyHack drew 588,000, TEN Eyewitness News was 451,000 and NCIS: LA was 204,000.

ABC News (809,000), 7:30 (690,000), Catalyst (573,000), Matilda and Me (439,000) and Foreign Correspondent (342,000) comprised ABC’s night.

On SBS it was Who Do You Think You Are? (332,000), Insight (23763000), and SBS World News (143,000) and Dateline (139,000).

7mate’s Highway Patrol was again best on multichannels at 264,000.

  1. Would be fantastic if Ten renewed Survivor.
    It’s been far better than what I think most people hoped for. However, disappointing that those ‘playing the game’ have been voted out. Nick, Phoebe, Craig and almost certainly Jenna-Louise are who viewers want to see. But it seems that too many who were cast on the show preferred to play with contestants who weren’t playing the game.
    Dead-weights like Kylie, Kristie and now Matt who’s disappointingly riding the ‘mean girls’ alliance coat-tails do nothing to entice viewers to tune in.
    A second season would hopefully cast more game players.

    2. The show has been great – well produced, great challenges, good host etc. I has only been the game play which has dropped, but that happens occasionally with the US seasons as well. It is one of the beauties of the Survivor concept that the viewer never knows how the dynamics will play out.

      But on the basis of how good the show is, it deserves more seasons.

  3. Really hope 7 brings back 800 Words next year. Putting in after a fizzer like Zumbo’s Just Desserts really killed it’s ratings this time round. All though time shifted numbers were really impressive.

    Also with Survivor, really been enjoying it. But I agree that the moment that they were allow to handpick a team was a bad move. Has made it for too predictable and one-sided. They all feel too safe and too scared to make a game move.

  4. Thought Todd Sampson show was brilliant. He has got guts that’s for sure. I learnt a lot about fighting last night. I always thought there was a lot of theatre to these shows and much was of was acting. I was so wrong. I really enjoyed it.

  5. Survivor was the best episode of the season so far. Jennah Louise and Sue played the game really well. Cannot stand how smug Brooke, Flick and El are, and will be watching in anticipation for their elimination.

  6. I was underwhelmed by Body hacks… remind me why Todd Sampson is an expert and why doesn’t he shave his Scooby doo beard? I think he’s more ‘Abc stable’ than commercial network talent? I turned on when he had his hand between an lady wrestlers crotch and thought it was bit weird and pervy?

  7. Survivor has still got me hooked – really hoping for renewal. And Todd Sampson was utterly compelling. Oh and Good Game was fun, too. That was my Tuesday night.

    1. Regarding Good Game, I think Nichboy has done a wonderful job filling in for Bajo… Last night was hilarious as he was poking fun at himself on being in the “B Team” lol. Making a jacket out of Bajo’s chair was very funny.

  8. Also not surprised X Factor is lower this year, I tuned into it during the ad breaks of Survivor but it was the same old formula from the past six years. Very long backstories and average singing

  9. Survivor is getting a bit boring since the El Flick Brooke alliance is so strong. JL tried to get people to make a move but that alliance is airtight. It’s going to be very predictable for the next four episodes until they get down to the top five.

    I read on TV Lounge someone suggested that they should have done another tribe swap after Saanapu handpicked their members. I agree with this – season 32 of Survivor – Second Chance had three tribe swaps and it kept the game interesting and unpredictable instead of stale with the same alliance in control the entire time

    1. Agreed, the hand picked tribe was a massive mistake. It is getting to the point where I don’t want anyone to win, JL is the exception with Kristie remaining curiously interesting, hopefully they both stay in a bit longer.

    2. Bit of a dilemma, the smugness of the three girls make you want them not to win. Then again the inaction and blind faith of the boys frustrate you to the point of not wanting them to win either…

      In the end you probably have to give the girls credit for playing a very smart game albeit making it boring for us…
