Ratings: First Test dominates primetime viewing. And that's about it.

2016-11-04_0945

Last night it was all about the Cricket with the First Test between Australia and South Africa dominating primetime with up to 832,000 viewers watching the Third Session.

With the exception of Home and Away (694,000) no other entertainment show managed to crack 500,000 viewers.

Seven News and ABC News won their timeslots.

And a dog ate the rest of my ratings homework.

Nine network won Thursday with 29.8% then Seven 29.0%, TEN 17.7%, ABC 16.3% and SBS 7.2%.

Nine News (925,000) led for Nine followed by First Test (832,000 / 569,000 / 373,000) and Movie: Rush Hour (357,000).

Seven News was #1 with 1.05m / 1.01m for Seven then Home and Away (694,000), The Chase (458,000) and Movie: Sex Tape (342,000). The Big Bang Theory was just 190,000 / 173,000.

The Project (540,000 / 344,000) was best for TEN. Law and Order: SVU drew 425,00 / 310,000, TEN Eyewitness News was 418,000 and David Attenborough’s Natural Curiosities was just 348,000 / 343,000.

ABC News (739,000) won its slot for ABC. 7:30 (560,000), Silvia’s Italian Table (405,000), National Treasure (282,000) and Kevin McCloud’s Escape to the Wild (260,000) followed.

On SBS it was Matthew Evans For the Love of Meat (241,000), Luke Nguyen’s Street Food Asia (231,000), My Restaurant in India (199,000), Outlander (138,000) and SBS World News (137,000).

7TWO’s Father Brown (240,000) topped multichannels.

  1. Wow ! What a powerful ending to National Treasure last night.
Robbie Coltrane deserves multiple awards for his brilliant portrayal of the despicable, repulsive but incredibly vulnerable and fragile Paul Finchley. His screen daughter was also exceptional.
This show has really resonated with me – a true sign of an outstanding drama.

  2. And while I am at it, when will the anti-siphoning laws be looked at/updated for the 21st century in Australia. So the cricket needs to be on free to air, great but when I wanted to watch it yesterday on 9Now I was told they don’t have the rights to show it… So I have to go to Cricket Australia and pay a fee to enable me to watch it through whatever app they have.

So it is only free if you can sit at home and watch it, for the rest it is not so free after all…

    1. I imagine this is Cricket Australia’s plan (rather than Channel 9). The same happens with AFL broadcast on the radio – you can’t listen to the ABC call of the game except by going through the AFL.com.au website.

      1. Just more evidence of the disregard the station have for its viewers. We all know the cricket generally (99% of the time) takes the 1/2 extra they have to complete the 90 overs for the day. Add on the extra time to wrap up and we have an overrun of 40+ minutes. Why then do they not show us the true timing as they, and us, know this is going to happen. This is not a tennis match which we don’t know how long it is going to take or the rare occasion where you have extra time in a match but a forgone conclusion of when it really is going to finish.

Bet you when I go back tonight to watch Survivor I will half 40 minutes of Jackie Chan and if I am lucky 20 minutes of Survivor.

    1. Oh no. I added time to the recording after the tip from yesterday, but I think I finished it at 12:15. If so, then goodbye tribal council result! No, don’t tell me…
