SKY News presenter Dan Bourchier will become ABC News Canberra presenter, as a permanent replacement following the departure of Virginia Haussegger last month.

From February 16 he will front bulletins from Monday to Thursday, with Craig Allen presenting on Friday to Sunday.

Bourchier will also host the Breakfast radio program on 666 ABC Canberra.

“These are two incredible opportunities and I appreciate the chance to join the experienced ABC Canberra team,” he said. “I can’t wait to explore the stories which are affecting 666 ABC Canberra listeners as they are starting the day, and talk through the matters that are most important to them,” Bourchier said.

“I’m also looking forward to joining Canberrans at the other end of the day – presenting the news of the day in the ACT, around the nation, and across the globe.”

Director of News Gaven Morris said: “We’re delighted to have Dan joining ABC News and thrilled to have him leading our flagship 7pm News in the nation’s capital with Craig, who is already well-known to ACT audiences.

“Starting in print reporting, Dan has developed into an accomplished broadcast journalist with an impressive track record in Indigenous affairs and political reporting. He will be an asset to the team in the ABC Northbourne newsroom.”

Bourchier relocated from SKY News Darwin to Canberra in October 2015. He was formerly with NITV.

  1. Surprising appointment. ABC employees normally don’t take kindly to someone who has worked for Rupert. It will be a steep learning curve for everybody including the viewers.

  2. Saw on Sky News only on Friday the presenter say farewell to him and that it was his last cross. Best of luck to him. Doing both breakfast radio and nightly TV news is pretty tough I’d imagine!

  3. This is an interesting acquisition for the ABC and a curious one for Dan I feel. I’ve been following his career since he moved from Darwin to Canberra on Sky; i thought he was doing very nicely and that a key role on Sky would be more varied than the Canberra ABC news (and radio gig). ABC also nabbed a finance guru from Sky business recently. Good luck to him; he’s definitely one to watch.
