Seven’s long association with Currumbin RSL Club has paid off after rival Nine News was blocked from filming the unveiling of a statue of fallen local Afghanistan War hero Corporal Cameron Baird.
Seven was given exclusive TV rights because of a sponsorship deal which helped pay for a $5000 plinth for the statue.
News Corp reports Currumbin RSL marketing manager Laura Prout said the club had to be ‘selective’ on media attendance because there was ‘minimal room’ inside.
Seven CEO Kerry Stokes is also chairman of the Australian War Memorial. On Sunday Seven screened a doco on the Afghanistan War.
Sunrise has filmed ANZAC Day services at Currumbin RSL Club for a number of years.
