Foxtel has renewed A Place to Call Home for a fifth season.

Foxtel CEO Peter Tonagh made the announcement this morning at the Screen Forever conference in Melbourne.

A Place to Call Home is for us an incredibly powerful production,” he said. “It goes way beyond just being a piece of content that appears on the screen. It’s a passion for hundreds of thousands of people who watch it every week.”

Tonagh recalled going to a Season 4 screening with hundreds of fans dressed in costume, likening it to “our Comic Con!” as well as picnics at Ash Park and a colouring-in book publication.

“Our view is not how many people we reach but how many we impact. A show like A Place to Call Home impacts the lives of many, many people. It doesn’t reach as many people as some of our other shows but it reaches enough and impacts them deeply, that we know it’s a good investment,” he added.

Season five will time jump to 1958, where four years have passed since we left Sarah (Marta Dusseldorp) and the Bligh family.

With a fifth season, Foxtel’s 3 season broadcast will surpass the two seasons which ran on Seven (who still produce the show).

Penny Win, Foxtel’s Head of Drama said: “A Place to Call Home has continued to build very strong audiences and passionate fans throughout it’s time on Foxtel. We are thrilled with the success of the series both here and around the world, and series five promises to be more of what our audience loves.

“The incredible cast, whose performances are exemplary, and the creative team, led by Julie McGauran and Chris Martin-Jones, have brought Foxtel a wonderful piece of dramatic television that we are all very proud of.”

Seven’s Head of Drama Julie McGauran said: “All of us at Seven Productions are delighted to continue the hugely successful collaboration with Foxtel on A Place To Call Home. This series is testament to how great storytelling, the talents of a truly gifted cast and a superb production can align to create extraordinary television and Seven are proud to be a part of an industry here in Australia that continues to deliver world class drama”.

A Place To Call Home features a stellar cast including Award winning actresses Marta Dusseldorp and Noni Hazlehurst and is produced by Seven Productions for Foxtel’s showcase channel. Foxtel’s Head of Drama Penny Win and Seven’s Head of Drama Julie McGauran are Executive Producers. Series Producer is Chris Martin-Jones. The series is created by Bevan Lee who will be collaborating on scripts with Script Producer Katherine Thompson.

A Place To Call Home has also garnered international critical acclaim with the Wall Street Journal calling it an “instantly irresistible saga” and is seen in over 120 countries worldwide.

  1. So excited. Can’t wait to see season five on Acorn TV. What a great show. I’m curious how they will handle the season four cliffhanger if they move four years ahead in time for the start of season five.

  2. I was shattered when 7 dropped this and I don’t have Foxtel so I have to wait until the dvd comes out but well done Foxtel on getting behind this great Australian drama and backing it in. To run it for 3 seasons is great news.

  3. I hope Regina (Jenni Baird) gets her just desserts in series 4, couldn’t bear to wait 12 months. But knowing how TV works, no doubt series 4 will end with a massive cliff-hanger. Having said that I hope we see more of Ms. Baird. What a talented actress she is, really brings Regina to life.
