ABC regional series Back Roads returns for its second season next week, again hosted by Heather Ewart.

To mark the series return a Back To Yack event will take place in High Street, Yackandandah this Friday 3-10:30pm, to be attended by Heather Ewart & ABC Managing Director Michelle Guthrie. No ticket required, all welcome.

Back Roads returns taking viewers on another journey to meet more of this country’s most colourful characters and resilient communities. In this nine-part series, award-winning journalist Heather Ewart discovers more about what makes country towns tick, and meets people whose grit and good humour will uplift and inspire.

Defined by their strength and humility, the real Australians featured in Back Roads are as awe-inspiring as the wild landscape that surrounds them.

In this series we meet 81-year-old Vida Maney, who despite only having the use of one of her hands, makes prize winning year buns.

Her secret weapon is a yeast she’s had in the fridge for 50 years!

And then there’s Lyn Westbury, the mobile hairdresser who plies her trade on cattle stations, in SES halls and beer gardens in outback Queensland, giving isolated people a kind ear and a nice cut ‘n colour.

Heather also meets abalone diver Paul Menke who along with his siblings, is keeping the family business going after their parents were killed when their plane was shot down over Ukraine.

First stop is the small South Australian town of Mundulla, before the series traverses the country on a Queensland road-trip from Innisfail to Normanton, as well as Mallacoota and Harrow in Victoria, Thursday Island, Katanning in Western Australian, Hermannsburg in the Northern Territory, White Cliffs in New South Wales and Cygnet in Tasmania.

Production credits: ABC TV Executive Producer: Brigid Donovan. Supervising Producer: Kerri Ritchie. Field Producers: Karen Michelmore and Lisa Whitehead.

8pm Monday November 28th on ABC ME.
