Biggest Loser: Transformed to follow I’m A Celebrity

TEN has addressed that period between two big reality shows where it needed a lift.

TEN has confirmed The Biggest Loser: Transformed will screen as its 7:30pm title in the period between I’m A Celebrity and MasterChef Australia.

In the last two years when I’m a Celebrity wraps in mid-March, TEN has had to ‘tread water’ before MasterChef arrives from late April or even early May.

Today at its Annual General Meeting, CEO Paul Anderson told shareholders it had a year-long plan for the 7:30 slot.

“Our complete 7.30pm domestic schedule is now book-ended by the KFC Big Bash League, which starts in mid-December each summer and runs until late January. Big Bash is the most successful summer content we have had, growing audiences by 25% last year, and has become a significant success for both TEN and our partner Cricket Australia,” he said.

“Our 7.30pm schedule in 2017 will now roll out as follows: starting the year with I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, then continuing with The Biggest Loser: Transformed, MasterChef Australia, The Bachelor Australia, The Bachelorette Australia and finally Australian Survivor.”

Biggest Loser: Transformed overhauls a long-running brand, broadening from weight-loss to health and fitness. It will be hosted by Fiona Falkiner with trainers Shannan Ponton and Libby Babet,

It means the show will be up against My Kitchen Rules mid-series and potentially an extended Married at First Sight.

Anderson also reiterated other local and domestic titles announced at the recent network Upfronts.

“They will be supported by established domestic successes such as Family Feud, The Project, Have You Been Paying Attention?, Gogglebox, Shark Tank, Offspring and The Wrong Girl, plus overseas hits such as NCIS and Modern Family.

“Our sport line-up for 2017 includes the KFC Big Bash League, the best Supercars rounds, Formula One, MotoGP, Rugby and – starting this Saturday, in prime time on TEN – the Women’s Big Bash League,” he said.

“We also have an exciting array of new content for 2017, some of which we announced last month, including the return of Russell Coight’s All Aussie Adventures after a 15-year absence.

“In the local drama area, we will launch Sisters and Wake In Fright. The Biggest Loser: Transformed will take a beloved brand to a whole new level, while Common Sense – a show about Australians talking about news and current affairs – will get Australia talking. Our new content from overseas includes Bull, This Is Us, Man With A Plan, Doubt and 24: Legacy.

  1. How long will TBL air for, I’d expect a full-length season?

With MasterChef airing Sunday – Thursday…

    That’s my problem?

Either TBL will air earlier (i.e.) whilst I’m a Celebrity is still airing – just different nights, or MasterChef will be starting later.

Or perhaps TBL will just be a much shorter season? Who knows what Ten expect it to rate?

  2. Having seen This Is Us already, I worry about its performance on Ten. I feel like its one of those shows, like The Good Wife, which might perform better with Seven or Nine’s audience. But its a great drama (one of the best from the US in a long while in my opinion) so I hope Ten can make it work!
