Discovery seeks WA producers for Shark Bites initative

Discovery Networks will commission up to five short stories from WA for Shark Week 2017.

Discovery Networks is partnering with Screenwest for a joint development initiative, Shark Bites.

Discovery Networks will commission up to five short stories for inclusion in Shark Week 2017.

The initiative gives Western Australian producers and filmmakers the opportunity to submit production ideas that can work in the Factual and Factual Entertainment short form space.

“Australians have a unique relationship with sharks, they’re synonymous with our local culture and naturally, Shark Week is one of our biggest weeks every year.” said Mandy Pattinson, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Australia, New Zealand & Pacific Islands, Discovery Networks Asia Pacific. “Hosting a large population of the ocean’s apex predators, Western Australia is a haven for unique and compelling shark stories and we’re proud to be in partnership with Screenwest to uncover new talent and ground-breaking, distinctly Australian content for 2017.”

“Screenwest is really pleased to be partnering with Discovery Networks on Shark Bites,” said Ian Booth, Chief Executive, Screenwest. “This initiative presents valuable production and development opportunities for WA’s talented filmmakers with a major international network. Discovery has been a great supporter of West Australian factual content with projects such as Aussie Gold Hunters and Super Predator, and we’re looking forward to fostering this relationship, for the benefit of WA’s screen industry.”

Applications close Monday 27 February 2017.
