Here’s a game changer for Netflix subscribers, with the streaming giant now offering offline downloads of film and TV series for phones and tablets on Android and iOS.
“While many members enjoy watching Netflix at home, we’ve often heard they also want to continue their Stranger Things binge while on airplanes and other places where Internet is expensive or limited. Just click the download button on the details page for a film or TV series and you can watch it later without an internet connection” it said in a statement.
Whilst it doesn’t cover every title, key shows such as Orange is The New Black, Narcos and The Crown are available for download today.
“To start downloading today, please update your Netflix app to the most recent version and take us with you to enjoy Netflix everywhere you go.”
Just in time for that overseas trip!
Foxtel Play is also rumoured to be pursuing offline downloads in the future.

Very disappointed that I can’t download it using the Netflix app on my Windows Surface who want’s to watch a movie on a tiny phone screen 🙁
The real “game changer” for me would be a Netflix download manager that allows the queueing of downloads and an ISP that is “download free” for Netflix during off-peak periods. I can see large smartphone memory cards being added to Xmas lists.
yippeee !!! those long train trip to the central coast will be less boring !!! this has replaced the Foxtel by telstra app that closed a while ago
Hmm…wonder if you can AirPlay a program to Apple TV?
Unfortunately the picture you chose for the article is a show that is not available for offline streaming (nor are JJ or Luke Cage) 🙁
The pic is the generic one Netflix offers for its service as a whole.
That’s a game-changer right there.
