OzFlix to launch on Australia Day

Streaming service built around Australian flicks hopes to have every Aussie feature ever made.

New streaming service OzFlix will finally launch on Australia, with a library of 250 Australian films.

The service, founders Alan Finney and Ron Brown, is hoping to eventually have all of the estimated 2000 Australian features ever made available.

But the service does not come with a monthly fee.

OzFlix viewers will pay $6.79 each to stream newest releases.  Older releases are $3.79 each.

Significantly, it promises that 50% of revenues will be passed on to distributors or rights holders.

A beta version is already available at www.ozflix.tv

  1. Commercially the licensing agreement with creative content owners will need to be suitably adaptable to take into consideration the likely moderate consumer base for such a parochial subject. There is the chance that expatriates overseas may want to access this service, it may also gain a following with non Australian movie enthusiasts too, but generally it will all depend on how the service is promoted and the quality of what it is offered. Anything less than HD quality will not do..

  2. I am interested but concerned it won’t have AppleTV/ console/ smartphone/ smart TV support at launch. I thought a monthly fee could work (even if it doesn’t include new releases) could help keep it competitive with other streaming services. Still, it could make a difference to keep oz films in the spotlight and I’m actually hopeful for this service and will support it when and where I can.
