Renewed: Endeavour

Inspector Morse prequel series is getting a fifth season.

UK detective series Endeavour is getting a fifth series.

The latest chapter of the Inspector Morse prequel series will comprise six feature-length films in 2018.

The new series, which will be set in 1968, again follows the career of the young Endeavour Morse played by Shaun Evans.

Roger Allam, Dakota Blue Richards, Anton Lesser and Abigail Thaw are all returning.

Marking the 30th anniversary of Inspector Morse, the first episode of Season 4 pulled in a consolidated rating of 6.8m UK viewers and a 24% share, the biggest audience since 2014.

Writer and creator Russell Lewis said: “The prospect of creating further chapters in Morse’s secret history is always exciting, but expanding our quartet of investigations to a sextet gives us the opportunity to deliver a truly epic year in the life of Colin Dexter’s immortal creation.”

ITV’s Head of Drama, Polly Hill says, “Endeavour continues to be hugely popular with ITV audiences, and we’re delighted to announce that it’ll be returning for an extended fifth series. Russell Lewis’s scripts are always immensely intriguing and gripping, and Mammoth Screen consistently deliver high-quality drama.”

It airs in Australia on 7TWO and 13th Street.

  1. Another show to add to my must-watch list. Season 2 is currently being repeated on Tuesdays by 7Two and is no longer at whatever-time-the-tennis-finishes.
