Renewed: Portlandia confirms final season

US sketch comedy confirms rumours of an eighth and final season, due in 2018.

US sketch comedy Portlandia has confirmed rumours of an eighth and final season, due in 2018.

The series that stars Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein was confirmed as ending during the Television Critics Association winter press tour.

Armisen commented, “For us, it seemed like a way to figure out a way to have a beginning, a middle and an ending.”

Brownstein added, “In some ways, just trying to create a container for something that has edges, in terms of intentions…I think in terms of the creation of art, it’s nice to put parameters around it. I think it helps to keep it pointed.

“I think nothing ever really ends anyway.”

The series has screened in Australia on ABC.

    1. Yes, I hate it when a new season of Portlandia is airing in the US too. It means most other sites I read & hang out on are full of boring over-explanations of lame jokes and “it’s hilarious, sorry if it’s blocked for you, but you just have to watch it because it’s so spot-on and it really is just like that and everyone really needs to see this, and …”

It’s the least-funny thing to come out of the USA since Nixon went to China…

    2. I know right? Also, I could swear on a stack of Bibles that when I searched it on Foxtel’s TV Guide a new episode (pretty sure it was Season 6) showed as scheduled on one of the ABC subsidiary channels. So I dutifully scheduled it to record and series link. Only to have it disappear from the Foxtel Planner and have no new episodes show up on the TV Guide.

Does anyone have more information please? ThrillHo & KimBaba need to know.
