Those ratings for Molly are amazing!
Seven will be hoping “Hoges” can do similar.
I wonder if news & sports should be rated separtately. Sometimes you look at the ratings and its nearly all news. I’d like to know how shows such as Dr Quinn, MASH & Jag for example get rated but there is never anything about shows like them.
For obvious reasons, people prefer to watch news, sport, and reality shows live (or as broadcast). That doesn’t leave much to compete with dramas in the time-shifting stakes, especially when the commercial networks are notorious for not starting them at the advertised time and many the shows finishing too late for people who have school/work/other commitments the following day.
The raw numbers during the actual program will likely be even higher as many people would skip / fast fwd thru the ads. I’d wouldn’t want to be paying much for a 30 second slot during The Blacklist.
Yeah, in regards to Dr. Blake & Downton, I think I’ve mentioned previously that both were getting a huge lift in the +7 & +28 figures – sometimes up towards 25% – and, on +28 figures, were regularly in the top 1-3 spots. About the only thing that was beating them in those weeks was sport.
Just goes to show that (a) people will still go out of their way to watch well-produced dramas, and (b) news, sport, and strip-programmed “reality” TV are being used to counter that.
And (c) – once people get sick of news, sport and reality they will go elsewhere to get quality programming – whether that’s SVOD illegal or legal downloads or Pay TV or using the PVR is up to their own preferences.
