More dates for regional Nine News bulletins

Canberra will be followed by Illawarra, Central West and later, Riverina bulletins.

 

Nine News Canberra, the first of 15 new regional bulletins from Nine and Southern Cross Austereo, makes its debut tonight at 6.00pm.

Communications Minister Mitch Fifield took time out for a photo opportunity with presenter Vanessa O’Hanlon.

 

Nine News Illawarra also launches Monday, February 13 with Nine News Central West bulletin now confirmed for viewers in Orange, Dubbo and the Central West region of NSW from February 20. Nine News Riverina is coming soon.

Grant Blackley, Chief Executive Officer of SCA, said: “Today is a momentous day for regional Australia as we premiere the first of our 15 news bulletins. And in two weeks’ time, the Central West will get the news service they deserve when we bring their very best local stories to air. We are investing in local communities by creating jobs and providing our clients with new ways to reach their customers.”

Mike Dalton, Director of Regional News for the Nine Network, said: “Tonight we launch the biggest expansion in regional news reporting this country has ever seen. This operation has been many months in the making and we can’t wait to bring these local stories to air. From February 20, viewers throughout Dubbo and Orange will also be able to experience the trust and credibility for which Nine News is renowned.”

    1. It’s “regional” from Sydney. Similar setup as WIN but less so, with 78 staff spread across 18 regional newsrooms (2 reporters + 2 cameramen each). It will be produced in Sydney and read from Sydney. Will it contain 16mins of video in addition to 7mins of read-to-camera covering 17 different items, as did WIN News last Friday?
      Mike Dalton, Head of Nine News Regional, said: “For the first time, our brand will be extended into country areas”. What was WIN broadcasting statewide at 6pm from 1989 to 30 June 2016, and then SCA from 1 July 2016? Um…oh yeah, Nine News!
