Returning: Living Black

Long running indigenous current affairs program returns for its 24th season.

Long running indigenous current affairs program, Living Black returns for its 24th season.

A six-part series, hosted by Karla Grant, returns to NITV and SBS next week, looking into eye health on Palm Island.

“In true Living Black style, we will explore the human aspect of the people’s stories and lives, and investigate a range of issues such as incarceration, health, cultural maintenance and sport,” she said.

“We get rare access to the Alice Springs Correctional Centre to hear the stories of inmates working towards getting their lives back on track, we visit Palm Island where a mobile eye clinic is changing the lives of locals, we go bush in Central Australia where young men are reconnecting with their culture, we meet the inspirational Terri Janke and look at one woman’s fight against the medical system.”

Living Black’s 24th season follows its documentary style of storytelling through compelling human stories, taking a comprehensive look into some of the most important issues affecting indigenous Australians.

Karla Grant and a team of Indigenous journalists, including Ella Archibald-Binge, Kris Flanders, Nancia Guivarra and Ryan Liddle, will report from some of the most remote areas of Australia, giving a voice to a range of perspectives and untold stories.

The first episode of the new series, ‘A Vision for Palm’, takes an in-depth look into eye health on Palm Island. Across Australia, First Nations people are up to 10 times more likely to go blind, often from preventable causes. In Queensland, that’s starting to change, thanks to a mobile eye clinic that’s bringing first-class ophthalmology services to some of the most remote corners of the state. Living Black investigates how the service is changing lives in the isolated community of Palm Island.

Wednesdays 9.00pm on NITV from 22 February
Thursday 3:00pm on SBS from 23 February

  1. Kudos to this little series….awesome that it has had such longevity…given that others…bigger and flashier have not made even a small dent in that time frame…
