WIN, Southern Cross discuss asset ‘swap’

WIN TV is reportedly looking to purchase northern NSW TV assets from Southern Cross.

Reports yesterday claimed WIN Television and Southern Cross Austereo were engaged in talks to do a ‘swap’ of media assets in regional NSW.

Fairfax suggested WIN Television is considering offloading its Wollongong radio station i98FM, while it is looking to purchase SCA’s northern NSW TV assets.

The acquisition of the TV assets by WIN would give it reach from Newcastle all the way up to the Gold Coast in Queensland.

The completion of the proposed transaction with WIN would be subject to consent from Network TEN.

    1. The regionals use 5/8 and the metros 10/9 because in some areas reception overlaps and that would cause a conflict which could cause your TV or STB to implode. Or something.

  1. So if WIN gets the SC10 channel(s) and SCA gets i98 then would WIN be found on number 5 (and 50-59) in North NSW because 9NBN is found on number 8 (and 80-89). I don’t think Nine will want to move their channels numbers around for WIN.

    1. Nothing will change. WIN will still carry TEN programming on whatever channels that SCA does now. Why change anything to add more numbers confusion for viewers. Channel numbers are never referred to. It’s simply a matter of remembering who is who on the remote. In Southern NSW it’s 8/WIN, 5/Nine, 6/Prime7. WIN would have no interest in paying Nine to move NBN’s channels.

  2. Will be interesting to see if WIN can pick up SCA Nth NSW for less than the $250M Nine paid for NBN3. Covers a large area from Sydney’s northern beaches to Brisbane’s southern area, and inland through Tamworth to the Qld. border.

  3. The reports are more than just claims and suggestions. SCA stated in a press release to the ASX that they were in discussions to do the Nth NSW television and i98 radio asset swap.
