15 years for Garden Gurus

WA-produced lifestyle show is celebrating 15 years on air, now seen in over 140 countries.

WA-produced lifestyle show The Garden Gurus is celebrating 15 years on air with a special program this Saturday.

The series is now shown in over 140 countries and in 14 different languages; 750 episodes have been produced and the team has filmed over 6000 stories.

Trevor Cochrane (pictured), Managing Director of Guru Productions, said: “Who would have thought a gardening show could be so popular for so long? Our new series has everything: the latest ideas and trends as well as flashbacks throughout the past 32 series, showcasing highlights from 750 episodes over 15 years.”

Graeme Hill, Program and Marketing Manager of Channel Nine Perth, said: “This is an outstanding effort from a truly dedicated team of professionals led by Trevor Cochrane. Fifteen years on the road, 15 years of showcasing fabulous gardens and sharing information on a subject that comes so close to the viewers’ hearts.

“I don’t think there has been another locally produced lifestyle program made in WA that has gone this distance. This milestone confirms the viewers love of and loyalty to the series. Here’s to the next 15 years.”

The Garden Gurus was created by Trevor Cochrane, who then joined his old mate Neville Passmore (retired in 2011) to create a different gardening program that focused on the needs of non-gardeners.

The presenters and crew have been everywhere, and continue to travel to produce the show. They have visited the world’s best gardens, such as Chelsea in the UK, Bloom in Dublin, Ellerslie in Christchurch, the great gardens of Europe and private gardens in North America, such as Butchard Gardens in British Columbia, along with other gardens in Canada – and of course, the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show.

They have built gardens for charities, they’ve been involved in garden makeovers – you name it, they have done it.

One of the funniest moments happened while filming in early 2009 when the crew visited a great garden run by a man who called himself The Naked Gardener. They got the shock of their career when they realised the name was completely literal.

Saturday at 4.30pm on Nine.

  1. Out of the many lifestyle shows Nine (and Ten) air on many weekends, The Garden Gurus is one of my favourites. Good to see it reach the 15 year mark. And am glad that it is sold/aired in that many countries.

I imagine it’s a good lead-in into Nine’s 5pm News (which often cracks into the top 20 ratings)? of late.
