Airdate: Melbourne Comedy Festival Gala

Melbourne International Comedy Festival specials switch from TEN to ABC this year.

TEN is no longer the broadcast partner of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, with ABC now set to screen The Gala, Opening Night Comedy Allstars Supershow and The Great Debate.

Wil Anderson hosts the Gala tonight for Oxfam at The Regent Theatre, with a line-up including Paul Foot (UK), Stephen K Amos (UK), Arj Barker (USA), Anne Edmonds, Mae Martin (Can), Loyiso Gola (Sth Africa), DeAnne Smith (Can/USA) Jason Byrne (UK), Rrzila Carlson (Sth Africa/NZ), plus Matt Okine, Demi Lardner, Tommy Little, Sammy J., Joel Creasy, Frank Woodley (it’s not clear if all will make it into the TV special).

Festival Director Susan Provan said, “Each year I am heartened by the goodwill of our comedians and audience members who do not hesitate to support the amazing work of Oxfam. They demonstrate a strong commitment to social justice and the development of a global community where clean water, education and a safe home is equally accessible to all citizens”.

Filmed from Melbourne’s Regent Theatre, and hosted by Wil Anderson, the annual Gala is the biggest night on the comedy calendar, where the finest and funniest from Australia and overseas take to the stage. Artists donate their time for this super-sized special event, and through the generosity of those on stage and those in the audience and watching at home, The Gala supports the life-changing work of Oxfam worldwide.

8:30pm Sunday April 2nd on ABC.
