Period medical drama The Knick has been axed after two seasons by HBO-owned Cinemax.
The Steven Soderbergh drama, which screened in Australian on Showcase, starred Clive Owen until his demise in the Season 2 finale.
“After a critically acclaimed two-season run of The Knick on Cinemax, we will not be going forward with additional episodes of the series,” said HBO miniseries and Cinemax programming president Kary Antholis. “Despite our pride in and affection for the series as well as our respect for and gratitude toward Steven Soderbergh and his team, we have decided to return Cinemax to its original primetime series fare of high-octane action dramas, many of which will be internationally co-produced.”
Cinemax had previously stated the series was always meant to be presented in a two-year story arc, but had been exploring potential avenues to proceed, without Clive Owen.
Soderbergh has since moved on to executive produce and direct Amazon Prime’s Red Oaks and Starz’s The Girlfriend Experience.

The first series was good, but I stopped watching a little way into the second series – so I’m not surprised it’s ended.
Shame – They never actually said if it would be renewed – I have been waiting – Was quite a strange show – but production value was high – looked extremely well filmed – quirky story lines – We quite enjoyed it
Sad, a great series!
It was great whilst it lasted.
