MKR comments lead to season high, while Biggest Loser falls to record low.

Ratings: Poles apart..... MKR hits 1.44m viewers but Biggest Loser sinks to 254,000.

Seven’s controversy surrounding comments made on My Kitchen Rules last night worked a treat in the ratings, drumming up an impressive 1.44m viewers -its best figure all season.

Judgement is yet to be passed on who was the bigger culprit in it all: the contestant, producers, the network, the media for reporting it all …or even viewers for validating the whole thing. Oh what a wicked web we weave…

While Planet Earth II slipped by some 100k it was The Biggest Loser: Transformed that took home the “F” on its school report. At only 254,000 it was the lowest figure the show has ever attracted across its history. At least things improved with This is Us off a dreadful base.

The Weekly with Charlie Pickering lifted slightly to 511,000 but Julia Zemiro’s Home Delivery dipped to 508,000. The Night Manager also fell in its second week for SBS.

Seven network won with 36.3% then Nine 25.6%, ABC 15.9%, TEN 15.1% and SBS 7.1%.

My Kitchen Rules was #1 with 1.44m viewers then Seven News (1.05m / 1.00m), Home and Away (701,000), Million Dollar Cold Case (670,000 / 522,000) and The Chase (591,000 / 384,000).

Nine News (909,000 / 867,000) was best for Nine then A Current Affair (755,000), Planet Earth II (586,000), Hot Seat (433,000 / 260,000). The Footy Show was 252,000 in 3 cities. Murder Calls Australia was 204,000 in 2 cities. Killer Women with Piers Morgan was just 151,000 in 2 cities.

ABC News won its slot with 763,000 for ABC then 7:30 (580,000), The Weekly with Charlie Pickering (511,000), Julia Zemiro’s Home Delivery (508,000), Walliams and Friend (324,000), Adam Hills: The Last Leg (245,000) and Pointless (232,000).

The Project (487,000 / 327,000) led for TEN then TEN Eyewitness News (461,000), This is Us (335,000) and Family Feud (321,000). The Biggest Loser: Transformed sank to 254,000.

On SBS it was 24 Hours in Emergency (229,000), Digging for Britain’s Secrets (226,000), The Night Manager (211,000) and SBS World News (157,000).

ABC2’s Dinosaur Train steamed to the top of the multichannels with 202,000.

Today Extra: 162,000 / 120,000
The Morning Show: 142,000 / 91,000 (4 cities)
Studio 10: 90,000 / 55,000

OzTAM Overnights: Wednesday 29 March 2017.

  1. What’s happening off of The Biggest Loser is interesting, NCIS seems low as does This Is Us, however if you go back 2 weeks Gogglebox was getting 674,000 off of TBL and got 722,000 off of Family Feud with the AFL opener on and NRL as well. So there seems to be scope for higher figures off of The Biggest Loser as Gogglebox shows, so perhaps over-run by 9 and 7 is keeping people from flicking over. Could do that for an hour on the AFL/NRL and still return for the second half. Plus of course prior to those games last week there was no MKR or MAFS on to eat into Gogglebox’s time.

  2. MKR is a despicable show but you can see why Seven and the producers turn up the nastiness because it gets more people talking about and watching the show. Then people are surprised that it wasn’t as bad as the ads made out (because apparently Seven have never made a misleading promo before) and say that they won’t be watching next time but, of course, you know that they will.

  3. Watched MKR last night – By watching the ad which was so misleading and I was the mug (but clearly wasn’t the only one) who watched it last night and there wasn’t half the drama they promised. Wont be falling for that trick again! Sorry to say TBL your time is up in prime time /and on the main channel but when will Ten respond is the question?

  4. I do think Ten should leave TBL where it is for its run. One more week of disastrous ratings then a couple of non ratings weeks should see it end – if it was designed to go for longer, Ten need to do some trimming. Then start Masterchef once MKR has finished – not beforehand.

    1. Looking at those ratings I’m more concerned about them changing This is Us timeslot than airing doubles. I don’t want to be chasing another new show around the schedule. Another good episode last night.

    2. I doubt they will as if they think about it right it is pulling similar to what NCIS is pulling on a Tuesday nights now, so it’s not actually doing that badly for a TEN show.
