Nine still keen on Gatwick Hotel for The Block

Don't rule out The Gatwick just yet -but is it for 2017 or 2018?

Nine may yet buy notorious hotel The Gatwick for The Block -but it isn’t clear if it will be for 2017 or 2018.

Fairfax reports a company owned by the network, MICJOY, placed a caveat on the rooming house at 34 Fitzroy Street, St Kilda, this week.

“I can’t think of anything that would prompt the Nine Network to place a caveat on that property otherwise to protect their interest as a potential buyer,” CBRE commercial property expert Mark Wizel said.

The news comes following reports Nine was behind a vast vacant property in Regent Street Elsternwick. Initial work has already commenced on the site.

The Gatwick has announced its closure while it relocates its vulnerable tenants, which would make for a clean slate for Nine for a 2018 series.

The new Block cast are tipped to be getting underway next month.

Nine declined to comment.
