Each was then ranked in an overall popularity poll as follows:

Call the Midwife – Best Period Drama
Merlin – Best Sci-fi & Fantasy Drama
The Bridge – Best Foreign Language Drama
The West Wing – Best US Drama
The Night Manager – Best Contemporary Drama
Happy Valley – Best Crime Drama

Dame Pippa Harris, Call The Midwife executive producer, said, “It’s an extraordinary ho‎nour to have topped this poll, and the whole Call the Midwife team are delighted.

“It’s a tribute not only to the brilliance of our ensemble cast but to the skill and passion of Heidi Thomas’s writing and to the range and diversity of stories the series has covered. I’m personally thrilled that a show which takes an unflinching look at the lives of women and is created by and stars so many talented women, should have struck a chord such a large audience.”

  1. Call the Midwife is so good that it deserves a porno parody…!!! Downton Abbey has got one and lets be honest Games of Thrones doesn’t really need one as its not far off on many occasions…..love the uniforms in midwife

  2. One of my favourite shows.

While it is interesting in its reflective view of where England and in particular London has come from shortly after WWII, it is its humanist centric story lines that really grab me. Superb writing and story lines. Never fail to have a tear running down my check after each episode.
